Fashion is littered with so-called “rules” that even the most traditional of trendsetters must admit are out of touch.
One that comes to mind every September is the edict that white outfits must be banished from your wardrobe from Labor Day onward, until summer returns (a decree that came into existence only because of classist prejudices and the old-money elite’s taste for arbitrary etiquette). But if anything can be gleaned from Milan Fashion Week street style, it’s that we’ve entered a new era of sartorial expression. Now, the only rule is to wear clothes that make you feel good.
Take, for example, the back-to-back all-white outfits Gigi Hadid wore in Milan yesterday. The supermodel was first spotted strolling through the Northern Italian city in a casual, monochromatic off-duty look, which consisted of a crisp oversize button-up, white mid-rise wide-leg trousers, and a pair of Adidas Sambas. She coordinated the outfit with a creamy clutch bag by Loro Piana, black oval sunglasses, a thick black belt, and layers of gold necklaces.

Later in the day, Hadid headed out to restaurant Il Baretto Milano for her cashmere brand Guest in Residence’s exclusive collaboration dinner with luxury label Luisa Via Roma.
For the occasion, Hadid wore yet another all-white outfit. This time, the ensemble included an ivory vest paired with matching high-rise slacks. She layered the vest with a slouchy, fuzzy knit bolero, then topped off the look with white loafers from Vagabond, a pale yellow mini purse, and an elegant diamond tennis necklace.
