Lewis Hamilton brings the design stakes up in an ostentatious pink coat as he takes a visit through the race track on his dearest bike

He’s used to crossing the finish line in first place, but Lewis Hamilton got an unexpected red flag on Friday courtesy of his garish new outfit.

The Formula One ace caught the eye, arguably for the wrong reasons, after venturing out in an unmissable hot pink jacket and matching jeans.

Known for his flamboyant style, Lewis, 35, had clearly raised the bar with his latest ensemble as he did a lap of Italy‘s Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari race track on his beloved scooter.

Hard to miss: He’s used to crossing the finish line in first place, but Lewis Hamilton got an unexpected red flag on Friday courtesy of his garish new outfit

The sportsman added a touch of conventionality to his colourful look by wearing a simple white T-shirt, while matching trainers rounded things off.

On a warm day in Imola – located just 40 kilometres east of Bologna – Lewis rounded off the outfit with a pair of heavily tinted sunglasses as he surveyed the track ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix.

Evidently in high spirits, the driver waved at onlookers who no doubt spotted him in his pink two-piece as he navigated the course.

The appearance comes after Lewis reflected on feeling like an ‘outsider’ while growing up in CBBC special Young, Black and British last week.

The Formula One star shared his experience as a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 who became the racing class’ first ever black driver in the Newsround documentary, which aired as part of Black History Month.

In the special Lewis spoke with three teenagers who have created a manifesto outlining changes they want to see for black 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren in the UK, who also meet with other stars including DJ Ace, YouTuber Nissy Tee and DJ Sideman.

Important message: Lewis rounded off his look with a Black Lives Matter face covering

Speaking via video call, Lewis reflected on growing up as black 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 and the changes he’d like to see in his sport following heightened interest in the Black Lives Matter movement.

The racing champion also revealed his own ambition to increase diversity in the sport, including drivers and his support team.

He said: ‘In my team, there’s nearly 2,000 people and we have a very small percentage of minorities currently but I’m trying to encourage change from within.

‘I’m speaking to people who hire people for the team and asking why it’s not very diverse.’
