Travis Kelce amazes fans with a classic rugby play during Chiefs training camp, igniting excitement

It seems the fans missed this trick

It’s likely that, much like his brother Jason Kelce during the Olympic Games,Travis Kelce has also expressed his newfound admiration for rugby after witnessing an incredible performance by the women’s team in Paris 2024.

During a Kansas City Chiefs training session, Travis stunned his teammates by executing a classic rugby pass. The unexpected move left everyone gasping in surprise, as it showcased a s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 rarely seen on the football field.

Kelce’s play takes the field by storm

This type of lateral pass is a rarity in American football, but it’s not the first time we have seen it from Kelce. However, in crucial moments of the game, such an unconventional play can be a game-changer, adding an exciting twist to the action.

While the forward pass is a hallmark of American football, the lateral and backward pass is a staple in rugby, where such passes are the norm. In contrast, these passes are less common in American football, largely because the game’s strategy places a greater emphasis on ball control. Typically, the quarterback uses laterals to quickly pitch the ball a short distance to a nearby running back, or occasionally a wide receiver, during a rushing play. However, laterals can add an element of surprise, often appearing in last-minute desperation moves or trick plays.

Enter Travis Kelce, star tight end, who has been known to shake things up with his unconventional plays. Drawing inspiration from rugby, Kelce’s use of lateral passes brings a dynamic to his game. Plays like the toss, flea flicker, hook and lateral, and buck-lateral suddenly become game-changers in Kelce’s hands, proving that a touch of rugby flair can make football even more thrilling at times.
