Cast of The Day The Earth Stood Still

Jaden Smith and Keanu Reeves worked on the same project back in 2008, titled The Day the Earth Stood Still. This sci-fi film is set in Manhattan where the lead characters investigate human-like aliens. This fun, scary, slightly creepy concept faired well in 2008 with a Box Office collection of $ 23 Million. During an interview Jaden Smith was questioned about working with Parabellum star, to this the young actor promptly replies, 

“He is a really cool guy and a great actor and he is very, very funny. He always had a lot of jokes and also made me feel welcome.”

This might come as a surprise to many who have never seen or talked to Reeves up close. It is hard to believe that someone as serious as Reeves could crack jokes and gel with kids. Young Smith crushed all our preconceived notions about the 58-year-old actor.

When the tables were turned and Keanu Reeves was asked about his junior co-star, the Constantine star had just good things to say about him. Reeves appreciated Smith’s professionalism. 

“He’s a good kid and he’s very professional, so I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary to bond with him just because he was a young actor.”

The Matrix star also went on to share why he closely produced and starred in the sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still, to this Keanu Reeves shared his enthusiasm about aliens. 

“I figure it was just the story itself [that drew me to the film], much like Scott [Derrickson]. The Earth is at a kind of crisis point, a crossroads, and humanity is as well. I thought that would be a good place to start and I thought it would be fun to play an alien.”

Keanu Reeves’s young co-actor Jaden Smith shares his fascination with aliens and films that are scary, thrill-inducing, and scary. When Smith was asked why did he say yes to The Day the Earth Stood Still? The Pursuit of Happyness replies, 

“I think science fiction is cool because it’s fake, I love aliens and creepy, scary stuff, those are the type of movies I like best. I loved the movie Alien and I liked The Lord Of The Rings.”
