Solange Knowles Makes History As She Becomes First Black Woman To Compose A Score For New York City Ballet: ‘Very Excited’

Solange Knowles has made a historical milestone by becoming the first black woman to have the opportunity to compose a score for the New York City Ballet.

The talented singer, 36, couldn’t contain her joy and announced the news on her social media to her dedicated fans and followers.

The score will be created for the Fall Fashion Gala’s 10th anniversary celebration on September 28th which is set to take place at the Lincoln Center in the heart of the big apple.

Along with the NYC Ballet announcing the news on their official website, the songwriter also jumped to her Instagram to post about the big news.

She uploaded a photo series of herself posing at the Lincoln Center where the ballet is set to be held. In one photo, she could be seen posing in a white blouse and cream-colored, loose-fitting pants.

Another snap showed the singer and dancer posing in chic black pants and a black, crotchet top on top of a staircase.

Solange wrote out in the caption, ‘very excited to announce i’ve composed an original score for the New York City Ballet.’

The star then credited the choreographer along with the City Ballet Orchestra and soloist who will bring her composed piece to life.

The Grammy winner’s production has yet to be titled, but the choreography will be put together by Gianna Reisen. While Solange will be making her grand debut with the NYC Ballet, Gianna is no stranger to the company.

The Fall Fashion Gala production will be her third choreographed dance for the ballet, according to The New York Times.

A number of celebrities will be in attendance, including Sex And The City’s Sarah Jessica Parker, who will be the gala’s honoree. The actress is also the vice chair for the NYC Ballet.

Past work: Solange served as a backup dancer for her older sister, Beyoncé’s group, Destiny’s Child

Solange has had a long-lasting career in the music industry over the years. The beauty pursed her passion for singing from the start and sang the title theme song for the hit Disney show, The Proud Family, in 2001.

The Houston native also began to serve as a backup dancer for Destiny’s Child when she was 13-years-old.

The group was led by her older sister Beyoncé, along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The star also co-wrote songs for the popular girl group.

Over the years, Solange jumped into the film industry, and appeared in movies such as Bring It On: All Or Nothing.

She garnered incredible critical acclaim with her 2016 album, A Seat At The Table, which jumped to the number one spot on the Billboard 200.

The album’s lead track, Cranes In The Sky, earned her a Grammy award for Best R&B Performance.

She released an additional studio album three years later called, When I Get Home, which also became a success.

To further pursue a fulfilling career in the music industry, Solange founded her own record label in 2013 called Saint Records. The label was created to focus on up and coming hip-hop and R&B music artists. She also released a compilation album under her own label called Saint Heron.

Alongside numerous accolades, the star can now add ballet composer onto her long list of accomplishments in her career thus far.
