Mason Mount Injury Absence Reportedly Extended Which Could Impact Future Of Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay

Mason Mount’s injury is reportedly worse than first feared – and it could have implications for Scott McTominay’s future at Manchester United.

The former Chelsea star pulled up with a hamstring complaint during the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat at Tottenham last weekend.

The club confirmed that the new signing will miss their matches before the international break, which sees them face Nottingham Forest and Arsenal respectively.

“Mason Mount is set to miss Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest due to an injury picked up in last weekend’s encounter with Tottenham Hotspur, a Man United statement read.

“The small complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month.

“The England midfielder has started both of our Premier League games so far this season after making his competitive debut for the club in last week’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.”

However, it’s widely reported that Mount could be sidelined for even longer than initially thought, with the Daily Telegraph saying it could be for between four-six weeks.

That would mean he’d be out until September 19 at the earliest which would also see him miss a clash against Brighton. If he’s out for six weeks, Mount would miss matches against Burnley and Crystal Palace, as well as Man United’s Carabao Cup third round tie and their Champions League group stage opener.

Man United have been linked with midfielders including Sofyan Amrabat but failure to get a new player in, plus Mount’s injury could have an effect on McTominay’s future at Old Trafford.

McTominay has been heavily linked with a move away this summer, with West Ham a club understood to be interested in signing him.

But Man United boss Erik ten Hag may want to keep hold of the Scotland international in light of Mount’s latest setback.

Mount played 68 minutes against Wolves, before playing 85 in a 2-0 away loss against Tottenham.
