John Terry suggests there is an ‘untold side’ to Mason Mount’s acrimonious £60m Chelsea exit – and asks fans ‘not to be too harsh’ when he returns to Stamford Bridge with Man United

John Terry has suggested that there is an ‘untold side’ to Mason Mount‘s acrimonious exit from Chelsea and urged Blues fans ‘not to be too harsh’ on the Manchester United star when he returns to Stamford Bridge.

Mount, who joined the Red Devils for £60million this summer, was locked in contract talks with Chelsea last season after reportedly demanding a salary comparable to highest-paid Blues player Raheem Sterling.

The Chelsea academy graduate was a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge for several seasons under Frank LampardThomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, but now he is condemned among the Blues fanbase for choosing to sign with Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Chelsea legend Terry has urged fans to go easy on the England midfielder, urging that there are two sides to every story.

The former England defender also hinted that he has inside information over why Mount chose to leave the club – and that this could shift some of the blame directed at the 24-year-old.

The ex-Chelsea star left Stamford Bridge to join Manchester United for £60million this summer

‘Mase is proper Chels through and through. There’s always two sides to a story and I know the other side to it,’ Terry told Knockout Events on Friday.

‘I’m not going to air that tonight but there’s another side to the story. Let’s not be too harsh on him when he comes back.’

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Mount chalked up 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances, helping the Blues win the Champions League in 2021.

After lifting the trophy, Mount said: ‘Chelsea is my blood. I love this club, I love these fans.’

Two years on, after sealing his move to Manchester United, Mount incensed Chelsea supporters after he and his dad were filmed describing the Old Trafford dressing room as ‘home’ and ‘special’ just days after he left his boyhood club.

Since joining Erik ten Hag’s side, Mount has made two appearances and is yet to register a goal contribution.

The Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge in April, after hosting the Blues in the Premier League on December 6.

Manchester United went into the international break one place ahead of Chelsea in the table in 11th.
