Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s teaser trailer features a hero with a red trident – we look at who this partially-obscured character is likely to be.
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to Aquaman, will be released in December and has released a teaser trailer giving a glimpse of Jason Momoa’s character’s journey.
- The teaser includes footage of Arthur Curry riding a giant seahorse and an unidentified character carrying a red trident, likely a reluctant ally of Arthur’s.
- The most probable candidates for the character carrying the red trident are Orm, Arthur’s half-brother and former villain, or Mera, Arthur’s close ally and potential love interest. The film may also introduce a new character wielding the red trident.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom includes a mysterious DCEU character bringing a red trident into the movie’s adventure on the high seas. Like its 2018 predecessor Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be a holiday season superhero release, with the sequel set to debut in theaters this December. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also unveil its first full trailer on Thursday, September 14 but has released a 30-second teaser for it that gives a quick look at where the sequel will take Jason Momoa’s King of Atlantis.
One section of the new teaser for DC’s upcoming movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom includes a quick glimpse at Arthur Curry riding aboard a giant seahorse, presumably his steed Storm from the comics and the Super Friends animated series. This snippet of footage also shows another unidentified character aboard the seahorse and carrying a red trident. This leaves open many possibilities for whom this mystery character could be, but the most likely candidate is a reluctant ally of Arthur’s.
It’s Likely Orm Holding The Red Trident In The New Aquaman 2 Image
Arthur’s Atlantean half-brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), was the primary villain of the first Aquaman, and there is good reason to think that he is the character wielding the red trident in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer teaser. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will include the story of Aquaman and Orm teaming up, with the imprisoned Orm being freed to help Arthur battle the vengeful David Kane, a.k.a. Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.) It would make sense for Orm to ride alongside his half-brother into battle against a common enemy.
Additionally, Orm was already shown to be a highly formidable Atlantean warrior in Aquaman, besting Arthur in their initial trident duel in the Atlantean arena. Though Arthur and Orm will surely be on shaky terms in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Orm will need to be properly armed to assist Arthur in battle against Black Manta and his allies. One of the best tools for the job is a trusty Atlantean trident, adding further credence to Orm carrying the red trident in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s teaser snippet.
Other Possible Identities For The Red Trident Hero In Aquaman 2
Outside of Orm, the other most likely character to be carrying the red trident is probably Mera (Amber Heard). The Atlantean princess becomes Arthur’s close ally, and by the ending of Aquaman, his lover. Canonically, Mera also becomes Arthur’s wife, which might be where their relationship picks up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as her willingness to fight by his side has always been a core part of her character. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might finally be where Mera truly breaks out her s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 in combat with a trident.
There is also the possibility that the red trident is being used by an entirely new character introduced in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. With Arthur ruling over the vast oceans of the Earth, he has no shortage of sea-faring warriors to call upon in his battle against Black Manta. This means that, despite the indicators of Orm or Mera carrying the red trident into battle, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might be saving that character’s identity as one of the film’s big surprises.
