Should Trout be traded by the Angels, the Phillies might be first in line

The Philadelphia Phillies could be one of the first to inquire with the Los Angeles Angels if Mike Trout is placed on the trade block.

For years there has been speculation that Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout could eventually make his way to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Then, Trout signed a 12-year megadeal worth $426.5 million. Still, there was always a thought in the back of many people’s minds that perhaps Trout could be eventually be traded.

Especially if the Angels completely fell apart and wanted to move on from the money.

That day has arrived.

According to USA Today, the Angels are open to trading Trout and the superstar wants a private conversation with the front office on the direction of the team.

Sounds like there may be a pretty good chance the superstar gets to have a say in his future despite the massive contract. After all, he is one of the greatest players this game has seen and has participated in exactly three postseason games.

That should open up the Phillies to make a move. Trout is from the area, grew up loving the Phillies and Eagles. And a pairing of Trout and Bryce Harper in the lineup is the thing baseball dreams are made of.

Add in the fact that Philadelphia could stand to add a left fielder so they can move Kyle Schwarber to designated hitter, and all of a sudden the Phillies have the best lineup and one of the better defenses in all of baseball.

Owner John Middleton is not afraid to spend money and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski isn’t afraid to get aggressive to get the man he wants.

Adding Trout would likely require both of those qualities.

For all the talk over the last few years about Mike Trout coming home to Philadelphia, this might be the closest we have actually gotten to its fruition.

Until of course it actually does.
