Fans outraged by ‘best 100 players in history’ list with Wayne Rooney OUT but unknown Uruguayan ‘El Gran Mariscal’ in

FANS have been left incensed by a list of the supposed 100 best footballers of all-time.

GDC Media are the brains behind the controversial rankings and have made a number of baffling inclusions.

Top of the pile is Lionel Messi, who has just pipped rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the second.

Three South Americans compete the top five with Brazil icon Pele in third, Argentina hero Diego Maradona in fourth and Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano in fifth.

But things then begin to take a weird turn with Xavi surprisingly high in sixth place with his Barcelona midfield partner Andres Iniesta down in 20th.

In one of the strangest calls on the list, Manchester United flop and current Benfica ace Angel Di Maria is in 17th position.

For comparison, Ronaldinho finds himself four places lower than him.

The baffling choices continue with Thomas Muller as high as 27th, Radamel Falcao makes the cut in 74th and Arturo Vidal is 80th.

That means Falcao has been called better than Sergio Aguero, Karim Benzema and Wayne Rooney, who doesn’t even make the list.

As for Vidal, they claim he is superior to Ruud Gullit, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

It is not good reading for the ex-Liverpool and Chelsea greats as they see both Paul Scholes and David Beckham come above them.

Among other surprise inclusions that many may not have heard of is Jose Nasazzi.

He was dubbed “El Gran Mariscal” aka “The Grand Marshall” after captaining Uruguay to victory at the inaugural World Cup in 1930.

There is also a spot for little-known Bolivian star Erwin Sanchez.

Fans have been left perplexed by the list with many pointing out their favourite bad selections.

Some highlighted the odd French decision to put Antoine Griezmann in 48th above 58th-placed Thierry Henry, Karim Benzema in 85th and Kylian Mbappe then one behind him.

Supporters slammed the ratings, saying: “This is trash.”

A second claimed: “That is woeful.”

Another added: “Thierry Henry at 58, you must be joking.”

More joked: “Di Maria and his mum wouldn’t put him 17th.”

A fifth wrote: “No Rooney but there is Falcao.”

Fans also flagged more missing England aces that should have been in with a shout like Jimmy Greaves, Alan Shearer and Harry Kane.
