Manchester United In Contract Talks With 20-Year-old Tunisian Midfield Sensation

Manchester United are looking to reward Hannibal Mejbri with a new contract extension following his impressive performances

According to 90 min (h/t the Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are in talks to extend Academy graduate Hannibal Mejbri’s contract by offering a new deal over his present one.

The Tunisian starlet’s current contract runs until next summer. The club can extend it another 12 months, but it has stated that they are aiming for a new deal so that the player doesn’t leave for free in 2024.

The United midfielder had an impressive cameo performance during their 3-1 Premier League loss to Brighton and Hove Albion last week. He scored our only goal of the game in an otherwise gutless performance.

Before the September international break, Mejbri didn’t feature in any matches for United, despite playing in a couple of pre-season friendlies. There were rumours of a potential loan to Besiktas, but that deal didn’t come to fruition.

Finally, the youngster had the opportunity to showcase his s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s for manager Erik ten Hag in a recent Premier League match. He came on as a substitute just after the one-hour mark and scored a remarkable long-range goal as a consolation for his team.

In addition to his goal, the 20-year-old was solid in midfield and also contributed defensively by putting in vital tackles. The fans hold Mejbri in high regard, and his impressive cameo displayed his character and determination. He is clearly motivated to perform if he is given regular game time.

Yet, the African player couldn’t secure a starting position for the match against Bayern Munich. Should Mason Mount or Sofyan Amrabat be available, the midfielder’s chances could take a hit.

The Red Devils should still offer him chances in other cup competitions and help him grow under the roof of Old Trafford. The player deserves minutes in the Premier League as well.

However, it remains to be seen whether the manager fulfils the player’s needs at a time when many senior players are sidelined with injuries.
