The Best 3-Point Shooter On Every NBA Team For The 2023-24 Season

Identifying the best 3-point shooter on every team.

In today’s NBA, if you can’t make 3-pointers, you likely won’t win many games. General managers and scouts are always looking to add more shooters to give their team a better shot at winning the championship.

The Golden State Warriors led the NBA in 3-point field goals and 3-point field goal attempts last season, which isn’t a surprise given they have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets were tied for last in the league in 3-point field goals, and both teams didn’t qualify for the 2023 playoffs.

With the 2023-24 season about to start soon, let’s take a look at the best 3-point shooter on every NBA team.

Atlanta Hawks

Best 3-point shooter: Trae Young

Trae Young shot 33.5% from beyond the arc last season. He made 154 3-pointers, which was first on the team. The All-Star point guard also attempted the most 3s (460).

Young is one of the few players in the NBA you have to guard as soon as he crosses half-court since he has unlimited range. He’s a career 35.1% shooter from 3 and has made 884 shots from deep in 353 games.

Boston Celtics

Best 3-point shooter: Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum is not only one of the best scorers in the NBA, but he’s also a terrific 3-point shooter. The All-Star small forward shot 35.0% from beyond the arc last season and hit 240 3s, which was a career-high and good for sixth in the NBA.

Tatum is a career 37.5% shooter from beyond the 3-point line. He has made 1,067 3-pointers since entering the NBA in 2017-18.

Brooklyn Nets

Best 3-point shooter: Cameron Johnson

Cameron Johnson shot 40.4% from beyond the arc with the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets last season. He made 103 3-pointers in 42 games.

Johnson is a career 39.3% shooter from beyond the arc. He has made 492 3s with the Suns and Nets and has one of the smoothest jumpers in the league, which is why the Nets re-signed Johnson in restricted free agency this offseason.

Charlotte Hornets

Best 3-point shooter: LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball only appeared in 36 games last season due to a fractured right ankle. The California native averaged 23.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 8.4 assists while shooting 41.1% from the field, 37.6% from beyond the arc, and 83.6% from the free-throw line.

Ball made 144 3s in 36 games. If he can stay healthy this season, the All-Star will easily hit more than 200 3-pointers.

Chicago Bulls

Best 3-point shooter: Zach LaVine

The Chicago Bulls were the worst 3-point shooting team in the NBA last season. However, that wasn’t Zach LaVine’s fault. The shooting guard shot 37.5% from beyond the arc and made 204 3s in 77 games.

LaVine is one of the top 3-point shooters in the NBA. He will have to continue to sink shots from deep this season for the Bulls to win games.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Best 3-point shooter: Donovan Mitchell

In his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell averaged 28.3 points while shooting 38.6% from beyond the arc. The All-Star guard made 245 3s, which was good for fourth in the NBA.

Mitchell is a career 36.5% shooter from deep. He is one of the best scorers and shooters in the league.

Dallas Mavericks

Best 3-point shooter: Tim Hardaway Jr.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the best players on the Dallas Mavericks, but Tim Hardaway Jr. is the team’s top shooter. He made 212 3-pointers last season while shooting 38.5%.

The Mavericks tried to trade Hardaway Jr. this offseason, but no deal was made. Don’t be surprised if the Michigan product leads Dallas in 3s again in 2023-24.

Denver Nuggets

Best 3-point shooter: Michael Porter Jr.

Michael Porter Jr. made 188 3s last season while shooting 41.4%. The Denver Nuggets swingman was 18th in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage.

Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are the best players on the Nuggets. However, Porter Jr. — who has one of the prettiest-looking jumpers in the NBA — is the team’s top shooter from beyond the arc. He will likely lead Denver in 3s again this season.

Detroit Pistons

Best 3-point shooter: Bojan Bogdanovic

In his first season with the Detroit Pistons, Bojan Bogdanovic averaged 21.6 points while shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc. The veteran made 145 3s in 59 games.

Bogdanovic is a career 39.4% shooter from deep. He is as reliable as they come from beyond the 3-point line.

Golden State Warriors

Best 3-point shooter: Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is not only the best 3-point shooter on the Warriors, but he’s also the best 3-point shooter in the NBA and in NBA history. The four-time champion has made the most 3-pointers in NBA history.

Curry shot 42.7% from beyond the arc last season. He made 273 shots from deep, which ranked third in the NBA. Klay Thompson led the NBA in 3-point field goals with 301, but Curry is universally recognized as the top shooter in the league.

Houston Rockets

Best 3-point shooter: Jalen Green

Jalen Green led the Houston Rockets with 187 3s last season. The youngster shot 33.8% from beyond the arc while averaging 22.1 points.

Green has proven that he can make 3s. Now, he has to become more efficient, as he’s only a 34.0% shooter from deep since entering the NBA in 2021. Green should get more open looks from beyond the arc playing alongside Fred VanVleet.

Indiana Pacers

Best 3-point shooter: Buddy Hield

Buddy Hield is one of the best shooters of all time. He was second in the NBA last season in 3-point field goals (288) and shot 42.5% from beyond the arc. The 30-year-old Oklahoma product is a career 40.2% shooter from 3-point land, which is good for 39th in NBA history.

After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Hield and the Indiana Pacers started dialogue to work on finding a potential trade with another team, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. If Hield gets traded, Tyrese Haliburton would become the best 3-point shooter on the Pacers.

Los Angeles Clippers

Best 3-point shooter: Paul George

Paul George shot 37.1% from beyond the arc last season for the Los Angeles Clippers while averaging 23.8 points. The eight-time All-Star made 158 3s in 56 games.

George signed a four-year, $176 million maximum contract extension with the Clippers in December 2020. The six-time All-NBA forward will make $45.6 million this season. He has a player option worth $48.8 million for the 2024-25 season.

Los Angeles Lakers

Best 3-point shooter: D’Angelo Russell

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired Russell from the Minnesota Timberwolves at the 2023 February trade deadline. The Ohio State product played well in his 17 games with Los Angeles, averaging 17.4 points and 6.1 assists while shooting 41.4% from 3.

Russell also put up strong numbers in the first two rounds of the 2023 playoffs versus the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors for the Lakers. The Louisville native averaged 15.7 points and 5.0 assists and scored 31 points in Game 6 against the Grizzlies.

Memphis Grizzlies

Best 3-point shooter: Luke Kennard

Luke Kennard shot 49.4% from beyond the arc last season with the Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies. The lefty led the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage.

Kennard made 133s last season. He’s led the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage the last two seasons.

Miami Heat

Best 3-point shooter: Tyler Herro

Tyler Herro made 203 3s for the Miami Heat last season while shooting 37.8%. The guard averaged 20.1 points. He was third on the team in points per game, trailing only Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat were ready to trade Herro this offseason in a deal for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard. However, Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, so Herro is still in Miami.

Milwaukee Bucks

Best 3-point shooter: Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard made 244 3s last season in 58 games while shooting 37.1%. The new Milwaukee Bucks star was fifth in the NBA in 3-point field goals.

Lillard is a career 37.2% shooter from beyond the arc. He is going to get so many open looks in Milwaukee playing next to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Best 3-point shooter: Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards made 213 3-pointers for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season while shooting 36.9%. The scoring guard averaged 24.6 points and made his first All-Star team.

Edwards is a career 35.2% shooter from deep. He signed a massive contract extension this offseason, so it’s possible Edwards could have a career season in 2023-24.

New Orleans Pelicans

Best 3-point shooter: CJ McCollum

CJ McCollum shot 38.9% from beyond the arc last season for the New Orleans Pelicans. He made 211 3s in 75 games.

With Zion Williamson healthy again, McCollum should get more open looks from 3 in 2023-24.

New York Knicks

Best 3-point shooter: Jalen Brunson

Julius Randle led the New York Knicks with 218 3-pointers last season. He was eighth in the NBA in 3-point field goals.

However, we believe Jalen Brunson is the best 3-point shooter on the Knicks. The lefty shot 41.6% from beyond the arc, which was good for 14th in the NBA. Brunson made 134 3s in his first season in New York.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Best 3-point shooter: Isaiah Joe

Isaiah Joe shot 40.9% from beyond the arc last season. He made 161 3s in 73 games.

It will be interesting to see how many 3s Joe makes this season. There should be more space on the floor for the Thunder’s shooters since Chet Holmgren is back.

Orlando Magic

Best 3-point shooter: Gary Harris

Gary Harris shot 43.1% from beyond the arc for the Orlando Magic last season. The veteran guard made 94 3s in 48 games.

Harris is a career 37.0% shooter from 3. He has hit 799 shots from deep since entering the NBA in 2014.

Philadelphia 76ers

Best 3-point shooter: Tyrese Maxey

Tyrese Maxey shot 43.4% from beyond the arc, which was good for fifth in the NBA. The youngster averaged 20.3 points in 60 games.

Maxey made 160 3s last season. That total will most likely be higher in 2023-24 since James Harden has requested a trade. Once Harden gets traded, Maxey’s usage rate will increase.

Phoenix Suns

Best 3-point shooter: Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant shot 40.4% from beyond the arc last season with the Nets and Phoenix Suns. He’s one of the best shooters and scorers in NBA history.

Durant made 93 3s last season in 47 games. He will likely make more than 100 shots from deep this season, playing next to Bradley Beal and Devin Booker.

Portland Trail Blazers

Best 3-point shooter: Anfernee Simons

Anfernee Simons is the best shooter and scorer for the Portland Trail Blazers in the post-Damian Lillard era. Simons made 212 3s last season. He was tied for 11th in 3-point field goals in the NBA.

Simons shot 37.7% from 3 last season. He’s a career 38.7% from deep. His usage rate is going to be really high this season now that Lillard is gone.

Sacramento Kings

Best 3-point shooter: Keegan Murray

Keegan Murray had a great rookie season for the Sacramento Kings. He shot 41.1% from beyond the arc, which was 22nd in the NBA, and made 206 3s, which was 15th in the NBA.

The Kings certainly made the right decision by drafting Murray with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

San Antonio Spurs

Best 3-point shooter: Doug McDermott

Doug McDermott made 123 3-pointers last season for the San Antonio Spurs. The forward shot 41.3% from beyond the arc.

McDermott is a career 41.0% shooter from deep. He projects to complement Victor Wembanyama well since he’s a terrific shooter.

Toronto Raptors

Best 3-point shooter: Gary Trent Jr.

Gary Trent Jr. made 166 3-pointers last season for the Toronto Raptors. The forward shot 36.9% from beyond the arc in 66 games.

Best 3-point shooter: Lauri Markkanen

Lauri Markkanen shot 39.1% from beyond the arc last season for the Utah Jazz. He made his first All-Star team and won the Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

Markkanen made a career-high 200 3-pointers last season. Look for him to take another leap offensively this season.

Washington Wizards

Best 3-point shooter: Jordan Poole

The Washington Wizards acquired Jordan Poole from the Golden State Warriors this season. Poole made 214 3s last season. He was ninth in the NBA.

Poole shot 33.6% from beyond the arc last season. He’s a career 33.9% shooter from deep. It will be interesting to see how he plays in his first season with the Wizards.
