Patrick Mahomes injury update as Kansas City Chiefs QB is seen with bleeding hands getting treatment in Broncos game

The star quarterback was caught with a giant gash on his finger.

PATRICK Mahomes injured his non-throwing hand in the Kansas City Chiefs’ shocking upset loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Although Mahomes was capable of returning to the game, the injury is still a cause for concern.

During the fourth quarter while trailing against the Broncos, the star quarterback pulled up to the sidelines with a bleeding index finger on his left hand.

Trainers and staff rushed to patch the two-time Super Bowl winner up, eventually covering the gash on his hand with a glove.

Mahomes would return to the game, later throwing another interception, one of three turnovers he committed.

The Chiefs did not announce an update on his hand after the game, but Mahomes said it looked like his hand had gotten stepped on.

Considering he was able to check back in, the signal caller should have time to recover before Sunday’s matchup in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins.

Mahomes’ hand wasn’t the only issue bothering him on Sunday either.

The five-time Pro Bowler also entered the game fighting an illness, reportedly battling the flu.

“I just started feeling [Saturday night] but I bounced back pretty well in the morning,” Mahomes told Fox’s Kansas City affiliate on Sunday.

“Just trying to do whatever I can to go out there and play my best football.”

However, Mahomes played far from his best football.

He tossed for 241 yards, failing to throw a touchdown, and coughed the ball up three times.

By upsetting Kansas City, Denver snapped a 16-game losing streak against their AFC West rival.

Despite coming into the game not fully healthy, Mahomes assured his illness had nothing to do with his performance.

“Just stomach stuff, you know. It is what it is,” he said.

With the loss, the Chiefs are still atop the AFC with a 6-2 record, tied with the Dolphins.

Their showdown with Miami in Week 9 will decide first place in the conference.

The Chiefs will continue to evaluate how Mahomes looks in practice leading up to the game and err on the side of caution with his hand throughout the week.
