Nationwide — Estella Williams, a 94-year old woman from Anderson, South Carolina, has been working as a crossing guard near a school for 25 years and she has no plans of retiring any time soon!
“It’s good. I enjoy doing it,” Williams told ABC News 4 about her job controlling the traffic outside Westside High School in Anderson, South Carolina.
She started at the job 25 years ago at the age of 69. She said, “My son-in-law, he was a policeman then. And he needed somebody, and he asked me if I would help him a few days.” But then the few days turned to years.
Williams, who is also a mother to 18 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, is now the oldest crossing guard in South Carolina and one of the oldest in the U.S.
“Yeah, I keep the kids safe. And the people,” she said.
