Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Step Up to Turn Things Around as the Chiefs’ Downfall Continues

In a disheartening turn of events, Patrick Mahomes found himself in tears. It happened after the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a surprising 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day in Week 16 of the NFL season. This defeat marked the Chiefs’ sixth loss of the season and the fourth since their Week 10 bye.

Despite a commendable season by Rashee Rice and the presence of Travis Kelce, the Chiefs are grappling with a shortage of receiving options for Mahomes. This slump in form for the defending Super Bowl champions raises concerns. They led the AFC West by only two wins over the Raiders, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers. However, still in the post-game interview, Mahomes has talked about getting better as a team.

Patrick Mahomes is focused on improvement in the upcoming games

This NFL season has witnessed a notable shift in Patrick Mahomes’ demeanor. This is marked by increased expressions of frustration and yelling–a departure from his usual composed approach. The reason for this change becomes evident when considering the Kansas City Chiefs’ performance. They have accumulated six losses. The last time the Chiefs faced such a challenge was in 2017, when Alex Smith was the starting quarterback.

Now, in this season, Mahomes is trying to focus on improvement and he keeps telling his teammates to get better and understands that he needs to do so himself as well. Mahomes said, “Yeah, I think guys are working hard. I mean, I’ve said every single week, guys are working hard to get better. And at the end of the day, we have to go out there and prove it. I mean, I know everybody hears us saying it, but unless we go out and prove it, I don’t think anyone’s gonna believe it.

This was also the addition to what Travis Kelce talked about in his ‘New Heights’ podcast. Even he remarked about getting better as a team and how they’re looking towards improved performances.

Travis Kelce is looking to improve his plays

During the first half of the game against the Raiders, frustration within the Chiefs’ offensive struggle manifested visibly through Travis Kelce. In a moment of intensity, Kelce directed his anger at his helmet. He forcefully threw it to the ground on the sideline. However, in the recent New Heights podcast episode, he talked about how the Chiefs are unable to catch the rhythm.

But Kelce wants to work on the flaws as a team, and he urges the offense line to live off the pressure from the defensive line, rather than otherwise. He said, “Knowing that we got guys that we can win with, and it’s just frustrating f**ing experience right now. And every single day we’re going in here fixing it, I promise you guys. And it’s not just one guy, it’s not just me playing like dogs*t, it’s not just us not being able to get the run game going. It’s not just us not agreeing, passing-wise.

So, the top players of the team are still hopeful about their remaining games. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
