When people saw the interior and exterior of Jay Z and Beyoncé’s $200 million mansion, they were startled.

Jay Z and Beyoncé made purchased their Malibu mansion for a reported $200 million but it seems fans don’t think they got a good deal at all.

Beyoncé and Jay Z are two of the biggest names in the music industry and if you have followed either of their careers, you’ll know just how successful they have been.

With that success has come wealth and the couple decided to make a massive purchase in 2023. At the time, the price of the $200 million home made it the most expensive purchase for a private residence in California.

They decided to add another property to their portfolio by buying the 81-year-old Tadao Ando-designed home.

Ando is a Pritzker Prize-winning architect who’s among one of the discipline’s most respected names so you can understand why the pair were happy to buy.

But fans on social media simply don’t get it and haven’t been shy about questioning the couple’s decision.

A thread on X has shown the inside and outside a whole host of celebrities homes, with many remarking how gorgeous and unique some of the properties look.

However, when it came to this power couple’s humble abode, people were left scratching their heads.

One social media user wrote: “This is truly awful! No character no soul, cold n hard, not a home at all.”

Another commented: “Am I the only one who finds it quite tasteless? the other cheaper mansions so much nicer.”

While someone else questioned: “Why tf does it cost that much it doesn’t look much bigger or nicer than the 20m ones.”

If that wasn’t bad enough other people claimed that it looked like a prison. Ouch.

“200 MILLION FOR THAT??? S*** looks like a prison yard. I could drive to Home Depot and build ts myself with cement blocks,” one person wrote.

A second penned: “They could have just bought a prison since it looks identical. Saved money too!”

Another added: “They really spent $200 mill for Prison walls, lol.”

The family’s California home spread stands on eight acres in the famed affluent beach enclave.

Spanning a massive 42,000 square feet, they bought it from William Bell Jr, who’s one of the world’s largest art collectors.

So, there is plenty of room for the couple not to care what people say about their home, I suppose.

Homes by Ando, who lives in Japan, are also particularly rare in the US as there are fewer than 20 Ando-designed residences in the whole country.
