“$500 shoelaces sold separately” – Fans roast Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red teasing a new shoe

Fans on social media reacted to the brand-new shoes from Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red. The American golfer launched his apparel brand in collaboration with TaylorMade earlier this year. Earlier, he was associated with Nike for nearly three decades. However, the partnership ended at the onset of 2024, and shortly after, Woods launched his brand, Sun Day Red.

The new company’s collection often makes headlines for its high prices. Fans have been critical of the prices since the beginning. Recently, Sun Day Red’s collection made headlines again as they teased a new shoe. They did not reveal the details of the new footwear collection but mentioned it would be released on December 4, 2024.

NUCLR Golf shared a clip of the new shoe from Sun Day Red on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

“#NEW: Tiger’s brand @SunDayRed announces the launch of a shoe, coming December 4th @TWlegion.”

Fans jumped into the comments section to roast the collection by poking fun at the pricing. Although the price is yet to be announced, some humorously predicted the rate in the comments.

“$500 shoelaces sold separately,” a fan wrote.

“likely for the low low price of $1200 a pair,” another fan jotted.

Several other fans were critical of the prices of other Sun Day Red products, and some even criticized the logo and name of the brand.

“Wish these were gonna be reasonably priced 🥲😂.” a fan commented.

“Such a stupid name and logo how did they f**k this up so bad,” one more fan wrote.

Woods opened up about his brand and how he got into the apparel and footwear industry at the time of the launch of Sun Day Red earlier this year in February. Reflecting on the new journey, the American golfer mentioned his years of experience in “adjusting” apparel and footwear to help him perform better in the game and that he was ready to share the secrets with the world. He said (via The New York Times):

“I have learned so much over the years and have a lifetime of experience adjusting my apparel and footwear to help me play better based on the way it was constructed. There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I’m ready to share those secrets with the world.”

Tiger Woods is best known for wearing red on Sunday during golf tournaments. He has followed this tradition since the beginning of his career, and intriguingly, the name of his apparel brand reflects on it.

Additionally, the brand’s logo symbolizes his successful golfing career, with 15 ᵴtriƥes representing his 15 Major titles. However, Woods had planned to update the logo by winning more Majors.

Explaining the meaning of his logo, Woods said (via USA Today):

“The logo is a tiger. It’s nice and clean. There is some representation of what I have done in my career. There’s 15 ᵴtriƥes – I’ve won 15 major championships. My goal is to ruin the logo. I want to keep ruining the logo. The trademark is this, and my job is to ruin it.”

Woods started playing professionally in 1996 and has won over 100 tournaments in his career. However, after his brutal car accident in 2021, he now usually plays in limited tournaments.
