Anne Hathaway has opened up about what it was like to work in Hollywood in the early 2000s, as well as revealing some of the controversial practices she was subjected to.
It’s unbelievable to think that 42-year-old Hathway made her feature film debut in The Princess Diaries 23 years ago.
The 2001 flick paved the way for the actress to star and lend her voice to 16 more flicks during the early 2000s, including Ella Enchanted, Brokeback Mountain and Bride Wars.
According to the Mothers’ Instinct favorite, she was subjected to ‘gross’ chemistry tests with her co-stars to see if they would gel well before filming scenes together.
“It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me,” the Devil Wears Prada alumna added. “It was just a very different time and now we know better.”
For her interview with the outlet, Hathaway rewatched some of her old films and became overcome with emotion while watching The Princess Diaries.
These include The Princess Diaries 3 and the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada, as well as an unitled project by Christopher Nolan and James Gray’s Paper Tiger.
