All About Coco Jones’ Parents, Mike and Javonda Jones

Coco Jones has had the support of her parents since day one.

The actress and singer began her career in the entertainment industry like many young stars have — with Disney. She starred in the Disney film Let It Shine in 2012 and evolved as a performer from there. She’s now the star of Peacock’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spin-off, Bel-Air, and an R&B singer touring the country and even landing praise from Janet Jackson.

Her father, Mike Jones, played professional football in the National Football League. And while her mother, Javonda Jones, may not be a household name, Coco credits her mom for giving her the inspiration, courage and support to take on the entertainment industry. Javonda is a distinguished singer in her own right, working as a session vocalist, and with her years of experience in business management, she has taken on a pivotal role in helping her daughter reach stardom.

Here is everything to know about Coco Jones’ parents, Mike and Javonda Jones.

Coco may be the most famous member of the Jones brood, but she is not Mike and Javonda’s only 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥. The couple — who have since divorced — share four 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. Their two sons, Steven and Mikey Jr, have followed in their athletic father’s footsteps with an interest in football. Mike Jr. played college football and is currently signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Steven also played college football.

Aja Jones is an athlete, too. She plays volleyball, currently on the roster at Florida A&M University.

It’s no surprise that Coco’s siblings have had such success in athletics. Their father, Mike, had a successful career of his own. He played 13 seasons in the National Football League as a linebacker and has since taken up coaching following his retirement.

Coco has been vocal about how the household in which she grew up allowed her to thrive and tap into her artistic talents. Unsurprisingly, one of her earliest performances was at a St. Louis Rams football game, the team her father played for in 1998, where she sang the National Anthem. She recently shared the clip on X. Growing up with a professional football player as a father and a singer as a mother, both parents nurtured her passions.

Mike and Coco have been close throughout her life, and she told the world about it in a Father’s Day tribute from 2020 on Facebook. She wrote, “From the first day, and every day after, you are always on my side. Always believing in me.. and loving me! Thank you, Dad. Happy Father’s Day to the greatest Father ever!”

Mike is also proud of Coco. He told ESPN in 2012, “She’s always been my 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦. When she did the national anthem at a football game once, I was sweating and more nervous than when I was in the Super Bowl. We have a very close family, and we call her our clutch performer.”

Javonda is one of Coco’s biggest inspirations

In 2023, Coco shared with PopSugar how important her mother Javonda has been in her life. “My mom, Javonda Jones — aka earth queen! — has been crucial to my journey in entertainment,” Coco told the outlet. “She is the definition of selfless. She sacrificed her free time for her kids, to help them accomplish whatever their hearts desired. She figured it out when we didn’t know what to do to get me to where I wanted to go.”

Coco’s journey in the entertainment industry has been guided by her mother. Starting with her days at Disney, Javonda worked as her manager. During an appearance on the R&B Money podcast, Coco shared that Javonda protected her from signing a contract that would have had her working with Disney for years to come.

Her mother’s business-savvy take on the entertainment industry has allowed Coco freedom and success, she said. Now, Javonda continues to work with Coco as the business manager of Real U Incorporated, now known as the Coco Jones Company.

Since she was a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, Coco has been all about family time

In an interview with Commercial Appeal at just 15 years old, Coco raved about spending time with her family whenever she had time. “Anytime I have a break, I’m going to go home and chill with my family, even if it’s just for a night. That’s how much we love being together,” she said.
