Enzo is much like any other Golden Retriever pup – friendly, goofy, cuddly – but a rare genetic mutation makes him stand out from the crowd.

Enzo was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 with a disorder called pigmented somatic cell mutation which has given him a large black splotch (his ‘lil freckle’ as his family calls it) over the side of his face.  Luckily for Enzo, the condition is not dangerous or harmful, it simply affects the pattern of his coat.

Golden Retrievers are 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 with a base black coat, and a ‘modifier gene’ is what turns them golden. Enzo is missing that particular gene in his DNA, and that’s the reason why part of his face is black.

The ‘𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡mark’ gives Enzo a unique look, and he’s rocking it. He’s quickly becoming a success on Instagram, under the handle mister.

Enzo’s freckle makes him unique.

Uniquely cute, that is!

But even though he looks a bit different from other goldens, he’s not so different on the inside.

He loves playing and goofing off with his parents. Here he’s in the middle of a tug of war!

Enzo’s freckle isn’t the only thing that makes him special. He’s also very big for his age.

But he’s still just a little puppy inside.

Hmm… did he get more freckles!? No, he’s just been playing in the mud!

Enzo loves making new friends and is an all-around happy and friendly little guy.

Though he’s not above causing a little mischief once in a while. Better lock that sock drawer!
