‘Once a Red’ – Manchester United fans send message as Ander Herrera, David de Gea and Juan Mata reunited

David De Gea got married less than 24 hours after being released by Man United and a couple of former Reds teammates were in attendance for the celebrations

Former Manchester United duo Ander Herrera and Juan Mata were both in Menorca over the weekend to celebrate David De Gea’s wedding.

The 32-year-old wedded long-term partner Edurne on Saturday, less than 24 hours after his United contract expired and he became a free agent. Talks had been ongoing for several weeks but a failure to reach an agreement led to his release on Friday.

After featuring in United’s final game of the season, an FA Cup final defeat against Manchester City, De Gea continued negotiations before leaving for his wedding.

Contract talks were put on the back burner as the goalkeeper celebrated his wedding, with two former Reds and fellow Spanish internationals Herrera and Mata also present. The former posted a picture on his Instagram on Sunday evening, joined by his two ex-teammates alongside the caption: “Reunited”.

A number of United fans were in the comments, sharing their love for the former Reds trio.

leeoroberts: Loved all three of you at United…

godswill_felix: Three United legends in one pic

dwnutd: Omggggg this trio

mytraveldiaries9: Once a red always a red

gemmagaluh: We love you Ander… You have a special place in United fans’ hearts!

Despite being released, De Gea’s future could well be at United with contract talks set to resume once he returns from getting married. United have been looking at new goalkeepers, but concerns over Financial Fair Play could force them to U-turn and keep the Spaniard at Old Trafford.

Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are also reportedly interested in the veteran shot-stopper, a move that would see him reunite with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
