LeBron James Still Has Interest In Future Reunion With Kyrie Irving

After reaching an agreement to re-sign with the Mavericks, the rumors of Kyrie Irving becoming a Laker were finally put to rest. On a multi-year deal, it will be some time before he becomes a free agent again, but there are no guarantees when it comes to Irving.

In fact, even after returning to Dallas, there is a sense that a reunion with his former co-star, LeBron James, isn’t entirely out of the picture. Speaking on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast, Brian Windhorst revealed that the King is still open to playing with Kyrie again should he ever make his way to Los Angeles.

“I will say this. I do think LeBron has an interest in playing with Kyrie Irving again,” Windhorst said. “I think he likes the idea of playing with Kyrie, the concept of playing with Kyrie and Anthony Davis. I have long said the best big-man pairing that LeBron’s ever had, as far as pure fit, is Anthony Davis. I believe the best guard pairing LeBron’s ever had is Kyrie Irving.”

Obviously, a big three of Davis, LeBron, and Irving is a dream scenario for the Lakers and it would make them the prohibitive favorites to win the West. Sadly, it’s a highly unlikely scenario for the Lakeshow and they’ll just have to make do with the guys they have for now.

Are Lakers Better Off Without Kyrie?

While many Lakers fans wanted to see Pelinka make a run for Kyrieor even Damian Lillard, their decision to prioritize depth and role-players may have left them in a better spot overall.

Now, instead of having a top-heavy roster that is reliant on two or three players, the Lakers have a deep and versatile group that can adjust to any matchup. The truth is, the Lakers may be better off with Kyrie in Dallas because we’ve seen what they look like with a gutted roster before.

In a league where anything can happen, it’s very possible that Irving ends up in LA before the end of his new contract, but LeBron isn’t thinking about that right now and his team is already locked-in on preparing for a new season with the guys they’ve already got.
