Kylian Mbappe returns to training with PSG, and shares a brief hug with teammate Neymar, amid uncertainty over the French star’s future

Kylian Mbappe returned to training with PSG on Monday, despite continued uncertainty over the Frenchman’s future at the club.

The Ligue 1 champions shared images on Twitter showing the return of the first internationals to the training compound, with Neymar, Danilo Pereira, Marco Asensio and Fabian Ruiz also pictured in a gym session in Poissy, France.

For Asensio, it is his first time with PSG, after joining the club this summer, having previously been on the books at Real Madrid.

Another tweet showed a brief hug between Mbappe and Neymar as they returned to the club for the first time since their summer break – as they knuckle down to prepare to defend their Ligue 1 title, and have another attempt at winning the Champions League – if the 24-year-old Frenchman sticks around.

PSG have seen Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos leave the French capital for free during the off-season – and there has been persistent rumours that Mbappe could be joining them out the door.

New signing Marco Asensio is making himself at home after previously being at Real Madrid

The French striker is reportedly part of Luis Enrique’s plans for PSG, after recently taking over the managerial reins at the club.

Mbappe has been locked in a contract impasse this summer, as he plans to leave the Parc de Princes with the expiry of his current deal next year.

Club chiefs want him to either trigger his one-year extension, or allow him to be sold this summer, so PSG can claim a transfer fee that would not be available in 2024.

Fabian Ruiz (L) and Danilo Pereira were also among those pictured on their return to PSG

It is thought that the French World Cup winner from 2018 is determined to reject both options, even if it risks enduring a season on the sidelines as he holds out his current £650,000-a-week deal.

Mbappe snubbed Real Madrid last year to sign that lucrative deal with PSG.

PSG are in a state of flux at the present time, with Enrique’s instalment as manager, club ultras issuing a chilling threat of violence towards new Serbian signing Dusan Vlahovic, and the prospect of trading Xavi Simons for Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

PSG open their latest defence of the Ligue 1 title at home to Lorient on August 12.
