As he was put through his paces on Friday, the new goalie for Man United got to know his new teammates.
Since joining Manchester United for £47.7 million from Inter, Andre Onana has taken part in his first practice.
As he participated in multiple drills in the New York sun, the goalkeeper was observed to be in high spirits. Onana signed a five-year contract this week and then took a flight to the US to meet his new teammates.
The 27-year-old, who will wear the number 24, will become Erik ten Hag’s first choice shot-stopper after the exit of David de Gea. The Reds boss explained why he signed the Cameroonian on Friday.
Ten Hag said: “Nowadays, football also demands good playing from the back, out-playing qualities, and that is a quality Andre has. You need both and you need to cover both areas.
“I think with his physical presence and also with his personality, he is so keen on winning. He’s so, so eager to win trophies and he will help the team and he will help the squad to get to higher levels.”
Onana’s participation in United’s match against Arsenal in the first Friendlies of their US Tour remains uncertain. However, as he gets ready for his debut, the United coaching staff put him to the test on Friday.
Onana was observed conversing with Dean Henderson, who was included in the US tour despite an apparent impending permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest. The other goalkeepers traveling with them are Radek Vitek, Nathan Bishop, and Tom Heaton.
