Man Utd set to pay RECORD transfer fee to poach twins of club legend from rivals Man City

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to pay a record fee to sign the TWIN BOYS of a club legend from rivals Man City.

Former Red Devils and Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher, 39, is now technical director at Old Trafford.

However, the five-time Premier League champion and 2008 Champions League winner’s sons have come through the academy system at rivals City.

Both Jack and Tyler will turn 17 this season – the age players can sign pro deals.

We reported last month that Fletcher and head of academy Nick Cox had launched a move to bring the pair to United.

Now transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says that they are “closing on” on snapping up the pair in record-breaking fashion.

He tweeted: “Understand Man United are closing in on deal to sign both Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher — locked in talks with Man City for two top talents, deal expected to be announced soon.

“Record fee expected within UK for U16 players. Busy summer for City Academy.”

Theo Walcott is believed to still hold the record for the most costly 16-year-old ever on these shores after Arsenal spent £9.1m to sign him from Southampton in 2006.

After signing pro terms with Sir Alex Ferguson aged 15, Fletcher went on to play more than 200 games over 12 years at the club as well as winning 80 caps for Scotland and captaining his country.

He departed United in 2015 for West Brom then moved to Stoke City two years later to play for another two seasons before hanging up his boots.

His boys, who are both schoolboy internationals, were 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 south of the border but were initially called up by Scotland through their dad’s nationality.

England have also bid to include them in the Three Lions’ camps, which led to a bizarre incident in February when they faced one another in an Auld Enemy clash.

Tyler played for Scotland but Jack took the bragging rights with a 3-0 win for England.

They can still choose to switch but it’s not unusual for brothers to meet on the international scene – nor is it unusual for United players’ kids to grow up in the City system.

Wayne Rooney’s and Robin van Persie’s did the same, while the likes of Jerome Boateng has faced his brother Kevin-Prince when Germany and Ghana met at the World Cup and Thiago Alcantara and Rafinha each opted for Spain and Brazil respectively.
