Chelsea and Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer as it appears as though PSG have found a replacement for the forward.
The Blues and the Reds are claimed to be in talks with the French side over a potential loan switch for the 24-year-old, who is nearing an exit. That’s due to his contract situation, having turned down the opportunity to extend the deal by an extra year and leaving just 12-months remaining.
PSG chiefs have played out a public saga since, stating he must sign an extension or face a move away this summer to avoid losing him on a free. At this stage, a new contract seems unlikely and to turn up heat on the situation, he has been left out of the pre-season tour to Japan.
A world record bid from Saudi Arabia was accepted by PSG, expected to be in the region of £250million, however the player was not as keen on the move and rejected it. It leaves very few options for clubs that could financially take Mbappe on for this season and potentially those beyond it.
Chelsea are one of those that could, which would see Mauricio Pochettino reunite with a former forward of his, but competition from Liverpool may be stern. Any switch could be accelerated in the coming days though as it appears as though PSG have found their replacement.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the French club are set to trigger the release clause of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele in the next day or so. The clause is worth roughly £43million, with the France international willing to make the move from Barca to the Les Parisiens.
With that deal set to be complete in rapid fashion, it may finally open the door for Mbappe to leave sooner rather than later, coming as a huge boost to Chelsea and Liverpool.
