Eden Hazard left Real Madrid last month after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract a year early and the former Chelsea star could now retire from football altogether

Eden Hazard is contemplating retirement at the age of just 32 following his departure from Real Madrid.

Hazard, who joined Real in 2019 in a big-money move from Chelsea, left the La Liga giants by mutual consent in June after his contract was terminated a year early. The Belgian struggled to make much of an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu, with his time in Spain blighted by a number of injury problems.

News of his departure came after Hazard revealed he and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti were no longer on speaking terms. “There is respect between us,” he said in an interview with RTBF in March.

“But I’m not going to say that we talk to each other, because we don’t talk to each other. But there will always be respect. Even if he doesn’t make me play tomorrow… I have to have respect for a guy like Carlo Ancelotti.

“In what he represents for football, what he has done in his career. No problem. It’s been three months since he made me play. I doubt a little. It’s up to me to show him in training that he can call on me. I probably deserve less in his eyes than others. You should ask him.”

Since his Real exit, Hazard has been linked with several clubs, including David Beckham’s MLS side Inter Miami, Belgian outfit Racing White Daring de Molenbeek where younger brother Kylian plays and Saudi Arabia.

However, nothing has yet materialised, with Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant claiming Hazard rejected a ‘concrete offer’ to link up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. And Spanish outlet AS are now reporting that Hazard could retire altogether.

The report states that the prospect of the forward retiring is ‘starting to gather strength’ as his injury problems have taken their toll and both he and his family are settled in Madrid and do not want to leave.

As a result, it is claimed that Hazard could end up deciding to hang up his boots at the age of just 32. He has already retired from international football, having made that announcement last year following the 2022 World Cup.

“A page turns today,” he said in a post on social media after Belgium’s group stage exit. “Thank you for your love [and] for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness since 2008. I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you.”
